CONCORD, N.C. – Tuesday morning, Dale Earnhardt Jr. woke up before his alarm sounded. And he couldn’t fall back asleep.

He knew that when he arrived on the Hendrick Motorsports campus, he would head straight to the Nos. 48 and 88 race shop and share the news.

After 18 seasons and more than 600 races, Earnhardt has decided finish up his NASCAR Cup Series career at the end of the 2017 season.

The driver addressed the group, sharing a moment with his No. 88 teammates inside the shop.

This afternoon, Earnhardt will address the media about his retirement decision, and Hendrick Motorsports will stream it in its entirety via Facebook Live.

Visit the organization’s Facebook page at 3 p.m. ET to watch the press conference live.
