CONCORD, N.C. -- Mother's Day is just around the corner -- this Sunday, May 14.
To mark the occasion, ESPN asked Dale Earnhardt Jr. to pen a letter to his mother as a surprise, thanking her for all she has done in his life.
That's not quite how it worked out.
Earnhardt did write a heartfelt letter. But what he didn't know was that his mom was in the next room, listening as her son read it aloud.
It made for a touching scene, and ESPN captured it all on camera.
