DOVER, Del. -- Jimmie Johnson is no stranger to Dover International Speedway.

And the driver has even said that the Delaware track is his favorite on the NASCAR Cup Series circuit.

Johnson's 10 wins at Dover rank first all-time ahead of NASCAR Hall of Famers Bobby Allison and Richard Petty, who each won seven.

He also holds the all-time record for laps led at the concrete oval with 3,093 laps.

Johnson's reasoning for his success at Dover is simple -- it just fits his driving style.

“This is a track that fits (No. 48 team crew chief) Chad (Knaus)’s style and mine," Johnson explained. "The car dynamics and how much the car moves around and the way it launches into the corner and lands, and then you turn around and fight through all the banking that has the launch back up onto the straightway -- it takes me back to my roots and really challenges the crews and the crew chiefs and engineers to make the car comfortable and secure. So, I just think that the challenges this track throws at a team just fits us really well.”

And Johnson, Knaus and the No. 48 Lowe's team have never backed away from a challenge.

The sensation of speed plays a large role at Dover, as the track is concrete as opposed to asphalt, which Johnson said makes a big difference.

“The biggest thing on concrete are the expansion joints and how they pour the concrete in those long rectangular blocks," he said. "There’s kind of a vibration through the car or some kind of velocities in the shock and the suspension that’s just a consistent feel."

Johnson likened it to driving a street car over a concrete bridge, where "you can just feel that repetitive kind of thump of the tire as you cross over those expansion joints."

This weekend, Johnson and the No. 48 Lowe's team will compete for their 11th win at the one-mile oval. Race coverage begins Sunday, June 4, at 1 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1.
