SONOMA, Calif. -- From a 26th-place finish in Stage 1, Jimmie Johnson worked his way all the way to the front of the field, winning Stage 2 Sunday at Sonoma Raceway.
The driver of the No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet SS picked up 10 extra points in addition to a bonus playoff point thanks to his first stage win of the season.
Two teammates joined Johnson inside the top 10.
Dale Earnhardt Jr., who started the segment in 19th, picked up 13 positions to finish Stage 2 in sixth. He earned five extra points for the result.
Chase Elliott was next to take the green-checkered flag, finishing Stage 2 in ninth after narrowly missing a top-10 finish in Stage 1. The result earned him two extra points.
After finishing Stage 1 inside the top 10, Kasey Kahne also began Stage 2 in the top 10 thanks to staying off of pit road between segments. After pitting, he was shuffled back in the pack but recovered to finish Stage 2 just outside of the top 10 in 12th.
The race will conclude with a final, 60-lap segment.
