CONCORD, N.C. – Wednesday, the premiere episode of “Road to Race Day” debuted on the go90 streaming platform.
Available on the “Road to Race Day” page on go90 and the free app from the Apple and Android stores, the episode followed Chase Elliott as his Rookie of the Year season got underway.
The series provides glimpses we might never otherwise get to see up close, and after watching the episode, 10 moments stood out.
10) Elliott gets plenty of one-on-one time with his predecessor in the No. 24 Chevrolet, Jeff Gordon, including during a commercial shoot for NAPA AUTO PARTS.
9) The episode provides an inside look at the kickoff luncheon for the entire Hendrick Motorsports organization -- including Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick putting Elliott on the spot -- and No. 24 team crew chief Alan Gustafson is mic’d up as he gives a season kickoff speech to the Nos. 5 and 24 race shop.
8) Elliott goes one-on-one with FOX Sports’ Katie Nolan for a rapid-fire interview. He’s stumped by one question in particular about the Daytona 500 and we get to see who she thinks should play the driver in a movie.
7) Speaking of interesting interview questions, the cameras follow Elliott for a glimpse behind the scenes at what it’s like for a driver going through the ringer on media day.
6) The No. 24 pit crew gets highlighted, including a position swap and everything that follows in order to make sure it’s a smooth transition when the lights are brightest.
5) The cameras are inside the meeting rooms on the Hendrick Motorsports campus as Elliott is prepped to climb behind the wheel of the No. 24 Chevy for the very first time. We even get to head inside the race shop and watch as the driver makes sure everything is perfect inside his race car.
4) We get right in the action as Elliott and the No. 24 team uses a paintball excursion for a bit of team building.
3) Elliott and his dad strap in to fly with the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, and the cameras are right there for every step of the thrilling excursion.
2) During the Duels, we get to see Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s advice to Elliott just before he fires up the engine, and listen in as Jimmie Johnson gets on the radio to give the rookie some pointers during the event.
1) We see Elliott’s point of view as he becomes the youngest Daytona 500 pole winner in NASCAR Cup Series history, including his crew chief discussing some pre-qualifying chats with Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick.
