RIDGEWAY, Va. – Before heading down to Alabama for 500 miles at Talladega Superspeedway, Chase Elliott took part in a two-day tire test at Martinsville Speedway.
Elliott, who clocked laps on both Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, said the test was very beneficial to the No. 24 NAPA AUTO PARTS team.
“We don’t have many opportunities to test in general,” Elliott said. “I’ve never been able to come and just spend a couple days here at this track, which is good for me.”
Although the fall race at Martinsville is still two races away, Elliott chose to use the time at the Virginia track to test some different things out.
“We’re making the most of it,” Elliott said. “We had a lot of plans to do so and we’ll see what we can learn.”
As for this Sunday’s race at Talladega, Elliott plans to focus on having another solid weekend. After two consecutive runner-up finishes at Dover and Charlotte, he credits pit stops and says it’s all about consistent performance.
“I think it’s just execution,” Elliott explained. “You’re not always going to have it perfect, but if you can come down pit road and have a solid day there it can patch up a lot of things.”
Elliott returns to Martinsville on Sunday, Oct. 29 for 500 laps of racing in Virginia.
