KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- As Stage 1 came to a close Sunday at Kansas Speedway, both Hendrick Motorsports drivers competing in the playoffs picked up crucial extra points.
Both Jimmie Johnson and Chase Elliott finished Stage 1 inside the top 10, with Johnson taking the green-checkered flag in sixth and Elliott in seventh.
That earned Johnson five extra points, and Elliott scored four extra points.
All four Hendrick Motorsports drivers completed the 80-lap stage in the top 15.
Kasey Kahne finished 12th, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. rounded out the teammates' Stage 1 performance in 15th.
Stage 2 will consist of another 80 laps followed by a final, 107-lap segment.
