CONCORD, N.C. – Thursday morning, Dale Earnhardt Jr. appeared on “The Dan Patrick Show,” and he gave a wide-ranging interview that touched on many topics fans might not have known about his life.
The driver discussed fun things like choosing baby names with wife Amy, how well his Washington Redskins are playing and finally learning to love practice, testing and traveling as his NASCAR Cup Series career wound down.
But Earnhardt dove deeper with host Patrick, sharing stories from his childhood, recalling acting out to try to get attention from his dad and reliving the memory of watching his mother’s house burn down before moving in with his father.
“We talked about a wide variety of things – went down a road I didn’t think we were going down,” Patrick told his listeners during the show. “As I said when we started the interview, he’s as honest as anybody I think we’ve ever had here. Proud to know him.”
Paul Pabst, executive producer of the show, tweeted that it was “one of the deepest, most honest interviews you will hear.”
