CONCORD, N.C. – The NASCAR Cup Series doesn’t head to Michigan International Speedway until June, but one of the Hendrick Motorsports drivers is already checking out the venue.
Tuesday and Wednesday, Alex Bowman and the No. 88 team represented the organization in a Goodyear tire test at the two-mile, D-shaped track.
“Really looking forward to get back to Michigan,” Bowman said. “We’ve been pretty decent at testing, so it will be a good run for us.”
The track, which was recently repaved, makes handling the car more challenging, the driver noted.
“Since they repaved, it always has been real edgy and hard to feel the race car,” Bowman said. “It’s a narrow groove. There is a fine line between a lot of grip and no grip, so some of the tires took feeling away, some of the tires gave us more feeling, so that was a big difference for me in some of the tires that I felt.”
When asked about the season, the driver felt he’s made a lot of progress in 2018. Though he described the season as a “roller coaster,” Bowman is confident the No. 88 team and the entire organization are headed in the right direction as the Cup season rolls on.
“I feel like all four Hendrick Motorsports cars have gotten better each and every week,” Bowman said. “We’ve just got to get a little more consistent.”
