CONCORD, N.C. – Last Wednesday evening, Speedway Children’s Charities held its 38th annual gala dinner and auction event.
At this year’s event, Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick was honored by the organization for his charity and philanthropic work.
Hendrick, who founded the Hendrick Family Foundation and the Hendrick Cares program, donated $100,000 at the auction, helping the event raise $1.2 million. It was the first time the gala raised over $1 million.
"Since taking the NASCAR world by storm in 1984, Rick Hendrick has achieved unparalleled success as a championship-winning team owner, but Rick is also an invaluable spokesperson for the sport of NASCAR and a tireless supporter of Speedway Children's Charities," said Marcus Smith, vice chairman of Speedway Children's Charities. "Our gala was the perfect chance for us to thank Rick for everything he's done to help the NASCAR community as well as children in need around the country."
No. 48 team crew chief Chad Knaus and former Hendrick Motorsports crew chief and 2018 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Ray Evernham were also in attendance at the event.
Since its inception in 1982, Speedway Children's Charities has raised $53 million, which has been donated to nonprofit organizations across the country.
