CONCORD, N.C. – This week, NBC Sports’ Nate Ryan caught up with Chase Elliott in the weekly “NASCAR on NBC” podcast.
Among a variety of topics, the driver discussed how Georgia Football Coach Kirby Smart’s motivational words helped him reach Victory Lane at Watkins Glen, his growing relationship with teammate and seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, the No. 9 team gaining momentum heading into the playoffs as well as his father, 62-year-old Bill Elliott, competing in an Xfinity Series race this weekend.
Even on an off weekend, the younger Elliott still plans to be at the track to watch his father compete in the event, the first time the elder Elliott has competed in a national series since 2012.
“It will be fun to watch,” Chase Elliott said. “We’ll have to wait and see, but like I said, there’s nothing to prove. He (Bill) just wants to go and have fun, I think that’s what people are forgetting. He is going to have fun and I’m going to have fun going to watch him.”
