CONCORD, N.C. – This week, some of the best engine builders in the entire country will once again gather on the Hendrick Motorsports campus.
The 17th annual Randy Dorton Hendrick Engine Builder Showdown is set to take place over two days on Tuesday, Nov. 6, and Wednesday, Nov. 7.
The event pairs 12 Hendrick Certified Master Technicians from Hendrick Automotive Group dealerships with 12 Hendrick Motorsports engine department team members. The teams work together to assemble 358-cubic-inch Chevrolet engines similar to the fuel-injected engines that run every NASCAR Cup Series weekend. Builders are working with 243 parts in total.
Each team has a qualifying build with the top two teams advancing to the finals, with the winners determined by the quickest time with the fewest number of errors.
And this year, the entire competition can be livestreamed on HendrickEBS.com.
The qualifying builds begin at 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday, and the finals will commence at 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
The showdown has continued to grow every year since its inception, and the goal has always been to showcase the importance of teamwork throughout both sides of the Hendrick organization.
“I’m just proud of them, and I love to see the two organizations as one,” Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick said at last year’s event. “It’s an awesome deal and I can’t wait to do it again next year.”
