CONCORD, N.C. -- NASCAR announced Monday that its races scheduled for March, April and early May have been postponed due to the ongoing situation with the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19. The sanctioning body plans to resume the Cup Series schedule at Martinsville Speedway on May 9.
NASCAR said it intends to complete all 36 Cup Series points races planned for 2020. Rescheduling will be determined at a later date.
"The health and safety of our fans, industry and the communities in which we race is our most important priority," NASCAR said in a statement. "We appreciate the patience of our fans and we look forward to returning to the racetrack.
"What is important now transcends the world of sports and our focus is on everyone’s safety and well-being as we navigate this challenging time together.”
