CONCORD, N.C. -- Chase Elliott will be leading the field for the start of Saturday's race at Dover International Speedway.
The driver of the No. 9 Mountain Dew/Team Rubicon Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE will start on the pole position for the first race in this weekend's doubleheader at Dover.
Jimmie Johnson will start in the third row in sixth, William Byron will be right behind him in eighth and Alex Bowman will round out the Hendrick Motorsports crew with a 11th-place start.
The starting lineup is based on a new metric system put in place on Aug. 6. Points position is weighted at 35%; finishing position from the previous race is for 50%; and the fastest race lap makes up 15%. Since Elliott won the DAYTONA Road Course on Aug. 16, he was heavily favored to secure the pole position via the new system.
Saturday's Dover event will start at 4 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
