CONCORD, N.C. – This one is special.
On Thursday, NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series team GMS Racing unveiled its No. 24 Chevrolet Silverado paint scheme for this weekend's event at Darlington Raceway – a throwback design in memory of driver Ricky Hendrick.
The Silverado, which will be driven by veteran Greg Biffle, is reminiscent of the No. 17 truck Hendrick drove in 2001 when he led 32 laps and went to victory lane in the series’ inaugural Kansas Speedway race.
At the time, Hendrick, 21, was the youngest winner in the history of the truck series. With 19 top-10 finishes in 24 races, he went on to finish sixth in points that season before moving into the NASCAR Xfinity Series full time in 2002.
Hendrick also had ties to the No. 24 car number. The son of Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick raced it on several occasions, including Xfinity Series starts in 1999 and 2000.
Sunday’s truck event at Darlington is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1. It will be followed by the first race of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs at 6 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network.
