CONCORD, N.C. – In honor of Jimmie Johnson’s final race as a full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver, Hendrick Motorsports donated $50,000 to the Jimmie Johnson Foundation.
Team owner Rick Hendrick recorded a special message for Johnson ahead of Sunday’s race at Phoenix Raceway telling him about the donation.
Started in 2006 by Johnson and wife Chandra, the Jimmie Johnson Foundation will celebrate its 15-year anniversary in 2021. It focuses on helping fund K-12 public education and has generated more than $12 million to support various causes, including schools in the Johnsons’ hometowns.
Some of the organization’s initiatives include the Champions Grants program, the Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope and grants for Team Up For Technology. The foundation also works with Win JJ’s Chevy, the Visor Campaign and the Jimmie Johnson Foundation Annual Golf Tournament.
