CONCORD, N.C. -- Chase Elliott had a career season that include his first NASCAR Cup Series championship. The driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE posted some impressive stats this year to make his fifth full-time season in the Cup Series the most memorable yet.
Take a look at Elliott's stats after he helped earn Hendrick Motorsports' record-extending 13th championship and became the 34th driver in Cup Series history to win a title.
- Elliott became the third-youngest champion at the top level of stock-car racing at 24 years, 11 months and 11 days old after he clinched the Cup Series title at Phoenix Raceway on Nov. 8. Only Bill Rexford in 1950 (23 years, 7 months and 15 days) and Jeff Gordon in 1995 (24 years, 3 months and 8 days) were younger.
- The Elliott family now has two NASCAR Cup Series champions with Chase joining father Bill, who won the title in 1988 when he was 33 years old. They are just the third father-son duo in history to win Cup Series championships, along with Lee and Richard Petty and Ned and Dale Jarrett. Both Elliott titles were won with the No. 9 car.
- This year, Elliott won five races, a season best. Three of those victories came in the last five events of the season. Elliott took the checkered flag at the 310-mile race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 28, then won at the inaugural race at the Daytona Road Course on Aug. 16. He followed up those wins by taking the checkered flags at the Charlotte roval (Oct. 11), Martinsville Speedway (Nov. 1) and Phoenix Raceway (Nov. 8).
- While it wasn't a points-paying win, Elliott also won his first All-Star Race on July 15 at Bristol Motor Speedway. The driver of the No. 9 Chevy led for 60 of the 140 laps to secure the $1 million prize.
- Elliott recorded career highs in laps led (1,247), top-five finishes (15) and top-10s (22) for the 2020 season. In his combined previous years in the Cup Series, he led a total of 1,844 laps.
- Elliott's road to the championship took off in the postseason. Not only did he win three playoff races, including the Championship 4, but he led for 717 laps in the 10 events, recorded five top-five finishes and seven top-10s. This year marked the first time Elliott had ever made it to the Championship 4 race.
- Elliott's performance during the playoff races also made a huge impact in his Championship 4 run. He earned 404 points in that 10-race span, collected 110 stage points and had an average finishing position of 8.8.
