CONCORD, N.C. -- Kyle Larson and William Byron will be starting at the front of the pack for the first race of the NASCAR Cup Series doubleheader at Pocono Raceway.
Larson is coming off his third points-paying win in a row from Nashville Superspeedway, which set him up to claim the pole for Saturday's race at "the Tricky Triangle." Byron placed third at the first-ever Ally 400, which help set him up for a second-place start at Pocono.
Alex Bowman will start 13th and Chase Elliott will round out the Hendrick Motorsports fleet with a 29th-place start.
The starting lineup was set based on the metrics formula from last season. It applies the data from the driver's finishing position of the last race (25%), the car owner's finishing position from the last race (25%), team owner points ranking (35%) and the fastest lap from the previous race.
How the drivers finish in Saturday's race will determine the starting lineup for Sunday's Pocono event. The top-20 finishers will have their positions inverted for the start of the race and the drivers who finish below 20th will have their Sunday starting positions set through the metrics formula.
