CONCORD, N.C. – William Byron’s visit to Chevrolet’s simulator earlier this week included a special guest.

Thanks to Chevrolet, Byron was introduced to INDYCAR driver Rinus Veekay, who was tapped to prepare the 2001 Homestead-Miami Speedway race winner with maneuvering around the 14-turn Indianapolis road course.

“I have many laps on this track, on this road course,” Veekay, who won the INDYCAR race at the Indianapolis road course this year, said. “Hopefully it helps him have a good result.”

Byron has claimed four top-10 finishes in his last eight starts on road courses, including his career-best sixth-place effort at Watkins Glen International last Sunday. With the help of Veekay, Byron looks to apply his learnings, take advantage of Saturday’s practice session and finish up front in Sunday’s race at the storied Indianapolis venue.

“It was cool getting Rinus’ insight on what the track is like,” Byron said. “Hopefully it pays off this weekend.”

For a behind-the-scenes look at Byron’s preparation with Veekay, watch the video above.

And be  sure to tune in Sunday, Aug. 15 at 1 p.m. ET on NBC to see Byron and the rest of the Hendrick Motorsports drivers tackle the 14-turn road course at Indianapolis.
