CONCORD, N.C. -- Kyle Larson and Hendrick Automotive Group traveled through the Carolinas on Wednesday to promote the Hendrick Hunger Heroes initiative for the start of the holiday season.

Larson, who is in the NASCAR Cup Series Championship 4 and is in the hunt for his first Cup title, has been working with Hendrick Automotive Group to donate to foodbanks throughout the region as families prepare for Thanksgiving. Overall, $1.5 million have been donated in the past year to foodbanks across the country to provide meals, supplies and personal protective equipment to families in need.

Larson stopped in Charlotte, North Carolina, Raleigh, North Carolina, and Charleston, South Carolina to give $280,000 worth of donations to the three locations. He presented the Second Harvest Food Bank in Charlotte with $150,000, a check for $50,000 to the Lowcountry Food Bank in Charleston and $80,000 to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina in Raleigh. Each donation represented the amount collected from employees in that region.

In the past six weeks alone, Larson and Hendrick Automotive Group have helped raised $500,000, all of which will be distributed to 27 food banks across the country before Thanksgiving. Hendrick Automotive Group has been preparing its Thanksgiving meal initiatives for 20 years. The organization has hosted a total of 29 holiday drives between Thanksgiving and Easter, which has provided 40,000 meals and more than $2 million pounds of food to 160,000 people.

Hendrick Automotive Group is in its first season as a sponsor with Larson. As the 29-year-old driver’s success took off, the No. 5 team and Hendrick Automotive Group agreed to a partnership that will see the blue, white and red colors of the organization on Larson’s Chevrolet for the next three years.
