CONCORD, N.C. – Chase Elliott and William Byron secure top-10 starting spots for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway.
Today’s single-car, two-round qualifying session saw the 36-car field split into two groups with the top five cars from each group advancing to the final round.
Alex Bowman posted the sixth-fastest time in Group A.
Chase Elliott, William Byron and Kyle Larson posted the fastest, fifth-fastest and eighth-fastest times, respectively, in Group B.
Elliott and Byron advanced to the final round of qualifying but, during their respective laps in that round, both teammates spun coming out of turn four and did not complete their qualifying runs. Both Camaro ZL1s were not damaged.
As a result, Elliott will start Sunday’s 200-lap race from the eighth position with Byron starting 10th.
Bowman and Larson will take the green flag from the seventh row in 13th and 14th, respectively.
Austin Cindric won the pole.
