The driver of the No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet won 10 races and the All-Star Race in his first season with Hendrick Motorsports. He capped the season off with a victory in the Championship 4 race at Phoenix Raceway to earn the organization's 14th Cup title and his first championship.
"It’s a great honor," Larson said. "I know there has been a lot of NASCAR drivers to win the award, so my fingers are crossed that I can win that. That would definitely be one of the coolest awards. Just being nominated alone is a great honor."
Of the 18 times a NASCAR driver has won the award, a Hendrick Motorsports driver was honored eight times. Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson have each received the honor four times.
