CONCORD, N.C. – William Byron took to social media to thank first responders, his team and those in the NASCAR community for their quick help following a generator fire that damaged the No. 24 transporter outside Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
No one was injured in the incident, which occurred Thursday while the transporter was stationed near the track prior to entering for the race weekend. The specific cause of the fire has not been determined.
The No. 24 Acronis Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and team equipment for Sunday's road course race were not damaged. Hendrick Motorsports sent a backup transporter to Indianapolis from its Concord, North Carolina, campus on Friday morning.
Entering this weekend’s race, Byron is one of five drivers with multiple wins - two - on the season. Sunday’s event at the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be the first of two this season with Acronis as the primary partner on the No. 24.
