CONCORD, N.C. – Chase Elliott and William Byron will be running Super Late Models this weekend at SpeedFest. Watermelon Capital Speedway at Crisp Motorsports Park in Cordele, Georgia, will be hosting the race on Saturday, Jan. 28.
Elliott, the driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports and the 2020 Cup Series champion, has had a successful history at SpeedFest. He made six straight starts in the event from 2010 to 2015 and earned three victories. He also was a perfect three-for-three in the Pro Late Model portion of the event. In addition to those wins, Elliott’s late model record includes two Snowball Derby wins, a Winchester 400 victory and an All-American 400 title.
"I always enjoyed racing at SpeedFest and we’ve had lots of success through the years," Elliott said in a release. "It has been fun trying different types of racing the last couple years, including rallycross, sprint, and midget cars, but I look forward to getting back to my Late Model roots."

Byron, the driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, enjoyed a solid season of Super Late Model racing in 2022. He won six events on the year, including the famed Slinger Nationals. This weekend will mark his second appearance at the south Georgia event. In 2016, he was battling for the win when an incident late in the race took him out of contention.
"It’s been seven years since I’ve been to SpeedFest and I’m looking forward to racing at Watermelon Capital Speedway again," Byron said in a release. "It’s been a nice offseason but I’m ready to get back in a race car and get 2023 started."

Since 2012, the .375-mile Watermelon Capital Speedway has hosted SpeedFest. Racing America will stream all the race action starting at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 28 as well as qualifying on Friday, Jan. 27 at 4:15 p.m. ET.
Elliott and Byron will also be back in action when the Cup Series schedule kicks off next weekend with the exhibition Clash at the Coliseum on Sunday, Feb. 5. Heat races begin at 5 p.m. ET with the main event at 8 p.m. ET. All coverage for both the heat races and main event will be on FOX, MRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
