CONCORD, N.C. – For the first time in his nine-year NASCAR Cup Series career, Alex Bowman will enter a race weekend as the points leader in the sport’s top series.
Bowman leads the standings by 15 points heading into the seventh race of the season. Consistency has been the calling card through the first six races for Bowman. The 29-year-old started the season by winning the pole position for the DAYTONA 500. Since then, he has tallied three top-five finishes, five top-10s, 31 laps led, an average start of 9.16 and an average finish of 7.00. His 46 stage points are the third-most this year. Bowman leads the series in top 10s and average finish, while he is tied with three others, including teammate William Byron for the most top fives.

"Being able to start the year so strong is a testament to the hard work by everyone on the No. 48 team," Bowman said. "Becoming more consistent is something I have wanted to get to for a while now. To have this season start this way has given me a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.
"The team at the shop are building really fast No. 48 Ally Chevrolets and Blake (Harris, crew chief) has put a lot of energy back into this group. It’s a really exciting time for us. I am just trying to take it one race at a time and do everything I can to continue our string of good races."
Bowman’s 7.00 ranks as the sixth-best average finish through six races in the history of Hendrick Motorsports. That mark is also the best for the organization since Jimmie Johnson’s 6.83 average finish to open the 2016 season.
Next up for the driver of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet is the Cup Series’ stop at Richmond Raceway. He won the spring race in 2021, leading the final 10 laps en route to victory in his career-best four-win season. Over the last five races at the .75-mile track, Bowman not only has a win but also three top-10 finishes.
