CONCORD, N.C. — It's time to head to Sonoma Raceway for the second road course race of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season.
Sonoma's Cup Series history dates back to 1989. New this season will be the track's surface as for the first time in 23 years, the facility underwent a repave. In terms of layout, the most notable feature of the 1.99-mile circuit is the elevation change. The start/finish line and pit road sit at the lowest point of the track while drivers will race uphill until turn three. From there, the rest of the lap will be quick as competitors navigate several downhill corners leading into the famous hairpin of turn 11.

Valvoline returns as the primary partner for Kyle Larson and No. 5 entry this weekend. In 2021, the group was victorious at the California venue in what was Larson's first career road course win. What's more impressive is his run of four consecutive pole positions from 2017-2022 (the tour did not race at Sonoma in 2020 and 2021's lineup was set via the metric).

NAPA Auto Parts is bringing a unique paint scheme to the track this weekend at Sonoma. While Chase Elliott and the No. 9 team have yet to find victory lane at this circuit, his seven triumphs on tracks turning left and right are the third-most of any driver in Cup Series history.

William Byron will sport the RAPTOR colors one again as he looks to chase another road course victory. The 26-year-old driver is the most recent winner on a serpentine layout as he was won at Circuit of The Americas in March.

Alex Bowman will dawn new colors for this weekend's main event. While Bowman has yet to break through on a road course, his two runner-up finishes suggest victory may be on the horizon at a track of this type.
