CONCORD, N.C. - Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick acquired another Chevrolet Corvette for his collection - and all for a good cause.

Hendrick placed the winning $3.7 million bid on the first retail production 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, VIN 001, at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction on Saturday. The entirety of the hammer price benefitted American Red Cross disaster relief efforts.

"We've been very fortunate to help a lot of charities, and I really respect (Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson) a lot because he's about the only guy I know that has an auction that gives all the money to the charities that we represent," Hendrick said. "North Carolina was basically destroyed in the western part of the state and now the fires in California, it's been something we've tried to support all these years. There's a lot of need in the western part of our state and I'm a Chevrolet guy and a Corvette guy, so it'll be good to have that one in the collection."

The donation tied a record for a charity vehicle at Barrett-Jackson set in 2022.

As for the car, the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 comes with 1,064 horsepower and a top speed of 233 mph. It is the quickest, fastest and most powerful Corvette ever built.

“The 1,064 hp Corvette ZR1 is the pinnacle of American engineering,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Global Chevrolet. “We at Chevrolet are proud to work with Barrett-Jackson and the Red Cross so that the historic sale of this American icon benefits people whose lives were impacted by hurricanes Helene and Milton (and) countless disasters across the country.”

In more than 15 years working with Barrett-Jackson and its charity auction program, Chevrolet has now generated $12.9 million through the sale of eighth-generation Corvettes.

“General Motors has shared some of our biggest and most memorable moments when we have raised money together for charity on the Barrett-Jackson auction block,” Jackson said. “Over the years, GM has entrusted Barrett-Jackson to sell some of their most coveted first-production vehicles for charity, and we’re honored to have continued that tradition in Scottsdale.

"We made history by selling this rare collector vehicle for $3.7 million, while also helping the Red Cross fulfill its mission to feed and provide emotional support to victims of disasters. Between the recent hurricane on the East Coast and fires in California, the money is certainly needed."
