DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The first phase of qualifying for the 67th running of the DAYTONA 500 is in the books.
And things will get more interesting on Thursday night.
Pole qualifying for NASCAR's Great American Race was held at Daytona International Speedway on Wednesday night, setting the front row for Sunday's main event. Kyle Larson led the Hendrick Motorsports contingent of drivers, advancing to the second round and turning in the 10th-best single-lap time at 49.504 seconds.
While the first two starting spots were set on Wednesday, the rest of the field will be set via the Duel at Daytona, a pair of 150-mile races slated for Thursday evening. All odd-numbered spots will be contested in the first race with even-numbered positions being settled in the second.
Larson will lead the way, starting fifth in Duel No. 2.
Alex Bowman turned in the 12th best time of the night and will roll off sixth in the second Daytona Duel. Chase Elliott came in three positions behind him and will start the first Duel race in eighth position. Finally, reigning DAYTONA 500 winner William Byron, will join Elliott in the first Duel and will roll off 11th.
The 67th running of the DAYTONA 500 is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday and will air on Fox.
