DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The running of the Duel at Daytona races on Thursday night gave the field some valuable track time in the draft but it also did something much more important: they set the field for Sunday’s 67th running of the DAYTONA 500.

Wednesday night’s single-lap qualifying session set the first two spots in the field while Thursday’s Duels determined the rest. The first race of the night was contested by drivers who qualified in odd-numbered spots while the second set the even-numbered row.

Among Hendrick Motorsports’ drivers, William Byron, the DAYTONA 500 defending winner, earned the best starting spot, finishing second in the first Duel at Daytona race to roll off fifth on Sunday. Chase Elliott will start 17th, Kyle Larson 22nd and Alex Bowman 40th.

Sunday’s main event is slated to start at 2:30 p.m. and will air on Fox.
