CONCORD, N.C. – Kyle Larson made history for Hendrick Motorsports in dominating fashion, leading 327 of 400 laps in the 600-mile race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

His performance notched the organization’s 269th victory, making Hendrick Motorsports the winningest team in NASCAR Cup Series history. 

Chase Elliott followed his teammate across the finish line, placing second. Teammates William Byron and Alex Bowman finished third and fifth, respectively.

KYLE LARSON, NO. 5 METROTECH AUTOMOTIVE CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 1LE

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Larson started the race from the pole position and did not look back. He held the lead until his first scheduled pit stop on lap 49. After the field cycled through pit road, Larson regained the lead and finished stage one there.
  • He headed to pit road at the stage break to grab fresh tires and fuel before rejoining the field in first. He fell to second after teammate Elliott made a pass for the lead on lap 133. Larson regained the lead after a strategic pit stop on lap 150. A caution came on lap 173 and Larson headed to the pits for another set of tires and fuel, restacking fourth.
  • He made quick use of his new tires, moving to second by lap 185 before taking back the lead on lap 188 and winning stage two. Larson made another pit stop at the stage break and maintained the lead after a swift stop. He fought off the pack for the third stage and won under caution.
  • Larson made another stop at the stage break and reshuffled back into first. He made his final pit stop under green on lap 346 and finished the race in first.

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 1LE

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Elliott rolled off the grid in third at the 1.5-milr track. He made his first pit stop under green on lap 49 and headed back out in second where he finished stage one. Elliott headed to pit road at the stage break for four tires and fuel before rejoining the pack in second.
  • Elliott caught his teammate Larson on lap 133 and overtook the lead. On lap 150, he cycled through the pits but was beaten out by the No. 5 Chevrolet and reset in second. A caution came out on lap 173 and Elliott headed to the pits. He reshuffled to sixth but maneuvered his way through the field, sitting second by lap 181 and taking the lead two laps later. He fell to second to teammate Larson and finished stage two in second.
  • Elliott pitted at the stage break and re-racked for stage three in second. He continued to hold second but had to pit on lap 248 and fell to fourth where he ultimately finished stage three. After a quick pit stop, Elliott bumped to second for the restart of the race. He fell down to fourth by lap 343 and pitted two laps later. After the field cycled through the pits, Elliott was up to second where he finished the race.   

WILLIAM BYRON, NO. 24 LIBERTY PATRIOTIC CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 1LE

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Byron started the 400-lap race in the second row next to Elliott, sitting fourth. He moved to third quickly by lap four and pitted with the field on lap 50. Byron rejoined the field third and finished stage one there.
  • After pitting at the stage break, Byron fell to eighth but snaked his way to third by lap 130. He made another green-flag pit stop on lap 149 and maintained his position on track. The race had another caution on lap 173 and Byron pitted during the caution. After taking four tires and fuel, he fell back to seventh but fought his way back to third by the end of stage two.
  • Byron pitted at the stage break and rejoined the field in third. His adjustments made helped him drive the No. 24 Liberty Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE to first by lap 231. He made a scheduled green-flag pit stop on lap 248 and fell to second where he finished stage three.
  • The 23-year-old driver pitted at the stage break and shuffled back into the field third. He made his final pit stop on lap 345 and was fourth but made his way to third on lap 350. He fell back to fourth and finished there.

ALEX BOWMAN, NO. 48 ALLY PATRIOTIC CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 1LE

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Bowman set off for the 600-mile event in seventh and fell back to 10th after the start of the race, sitting 11th by llap 46 when he made his first scheduled pit stop. After heading back out to the track, Bowman moved to 10th and finished stage one there.
  • After a quick pit stop at the stage break, Bowman jumped to fifth for the start of stage two. After the green flag waved, he fell back to 10th, sitting there on lap 112. The 28-year-old driver pitted under green on lap 149 and restacked in the field ninth.
  • Bowman made a pit stop during the caution on lap 179, only taking two tires which yielded the lead. His run at the front ended on lap 180 when he fell to second. He continued to fall and finished stage two in seventh.
  • Bowman headed to the pits at the stage break for fresh tires and fuel before rejoining the field in sixth. He made a scheduled pit stop on lap 248 and moved to fifth after the rest of the field cycled through the pits.
  • A caution came on lap 296 and Bowman finished stage three in fifth. He headed to the pits under caution and re-racked in fifth. He made his final pit stop on lap 345 and sat sixth but moved into fifth before finishing there.
