New Hendrick museum exhibits, hours for race week

CONCORD, N.C. (Oct. 6, 2008) -- Thirty-two trophies earned at Lowe’s Motor Speedway and Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s winning tires from Michigan International Speedway are among the new memorabilia currently on display at the Hendrick Motorsports museum. Admission is free-of-charge, and the hours of operation have been extended Thursday through Sunday. Please see below for this week’s special hours. Generally, the museum is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lowe’s Motor Speedway, the next stop on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule, has been an exciting place for Hendrick Motorsports. Team owner Rick Hendrick’s success at the 1.5-mile track dates back to May 28, 1983, when he made his debut as a NASCAR owner. It was then that Hendrick co-owned a Chevrolet with Robert Gee, maternal grandfather to Dale Earnhardt Jr. Dale Earnhardt Sr. drove the car to Victory Lane in the Sportsman Series event that day. Since then, Hendrick has gone on to become the winningest NASCAR Sprint Cup owner at Lowe’s Motor Speedway with 15 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins and another six in the May all-star event.
