CONCORD, N.C. -- Alex Bowman will be on the second row for Sunday's playoff race at Talladega Superspeedway.
The driver of the No. 88 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE will roll off the grid in fourth as he looks for another solid playoff finish. Teammate Chase Elliott will start his playoff run at Talladega three rows behind Bowman in 10th.
Jimmie Johnson will begin the race in 17th and William Byron will round out the group with a 21st-place start.
Denny Hamlin will start in the pole position.
The starting lineup is based on a new metric system put in place on Aug. 6. Points position is weighted at 35%; finishing position from the previous race is for 50%; and the fastest race lap makes up 15%.
