BRISTOL, Tenn. – April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and to help bring attention to the issue, Kelley Blue Book and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have joined forces.
Distracted driving has become a serious issue that not only affects everyone on the roadways, but teenagers in particular. And it’s not just cell phone use, it’s anything that takes the driver’s attention away from the road in front of him or her, including eating or applying makeup.
Jack Nerad, executive editorial director for Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com, said that the company has partnered with Chase Elliott and Hendrick Motorsports to promote a message of safety.
"Kelley Blue Book challenges everyone to take NHTSA’s 'One Text or Call Could Wreck It All' pledge on KBB.com and commit to being a safe, distraction-free driver," he said.
Elliott will pilot the No. 24 Kelley Blue Book Chevrolet SS for the first time this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. The 20-year-old driver has taken a pledge to promote safe driving and to encourage friends to drive phone-free.
“It’s a very important issue and something that doesn’t need to get overlooked,” the rookie said. “Safety on the roads is something we’re all a part of each and every day of the week, so it impacts all of us. I think everyone being aware of it can certainly go a long way.”
