CONCORD, N.C. – The Hendrick Motorsports teams have arrived at Dover International Speedway and are ready to take on the “Monster Mile.”
The organization has a successful resume at the world’s fastest one-mile oval since its inception, with several drivers contributing to the statistics.
Take a look at the eight facts below about Hendrick Motorsports’ success at Dover.
1) Hendrick Motorsports has amassed 18 total wins at Dover, earned by five drivers -- Jimmie Johnson (10), Jeff Gordon (5), Geoffrey Bodine, Ricky Rudd and Ken Schrader.
2) The organization’s first win at the speedway came on May 18, 1986, by Geoffrey Bodine in the No. 5 Chevy.
3) Both Gordon and Johnson have achieved sweeps at Dover. Gordon’s occurred in 1996 and Johnson’s in 2002 and 2009.
4) Dover International Speedway is tied with Charlotte Motor Speedway for second for the most number of wins Hendrick Motorsports has at a track.
5) The organization has a total of nine pole positions at Dover, with the most recent being Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s in the fall 2013 race.
6) Dover is also the second-ranked track for the highest number of laps led for Hendrick Motorsports with 6,393.
7) Johnson has led 2,999 laps around the “Monster Mile” during his career thus far, which is the most all-time of any driver at the track. He also leads the all-time wins category with his 10 victories.
8) With Johnson the defending winner of last year’s spring race at Dover, the Hendrick Motorsports teammates are looking for a win this weekend. “I’ve always thought that Miles is a really cool trophy to win,” rookie Chase Elliott said. “As a fan watching I always thought that it was really unique. It also puts a good explanation of that racetrack into a trophy because that’s a really good description of what we fight and what you deal with at Dover. I think that’s a very fitting trophy and it would be great to have one.”
