CONCORD, N.C. -- Jimmie Johnson's fitness is well-known.
After all, less than two weeks ago he took first place in his age group in the Jimmie Johnson Foundation's Cane Creek Sprint Triathlon.
But what might not be quite as well-known is that he often trains at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center -- a venue shared by several Olympians.
One of those Olympians is swimmer Katie Meili, who Monday evening in Rio de Janeiro earned a bronze medal in the women's 100-meter breaststroke.
Right away, Johnson shared his congratulations on Twitter.
Meili, who posted a time of 1:05.69, saw that the six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion had reached out and sent a reply of her own.
It seems many of the Hendrick Motorsports drivers are tuning in to the Summer Games, including Chase Elliott.
"I've always been a fan of the Olympics," the rookie said. "Who isn't?"
More on Elliott's Olympic interest -- including the sport he would choose -- later this week on HendrickMotorsports.com.
