CONCORD, N.C. -- William Byron -- who signed a multi-year contract with Hendrick Motorsports and JR Motorsports -- grew up a fan of the organization that holds 11 NASCAR Sprint Cup championships.

"The reason I was a fan of Hendrick Motorsports is just the attention to detail and watching how they conduct themselves," the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver said. "I love watching the competitiveness that Jimmie (Johnson) and (No. 48 team crew chief) Chad (Knaus) have and how intense it got when they were racing for championships, it's like they flipped a switch."

Byron said the organization is special to him because of the teamwork and connections everyone involved displays.

"I think it's more than just being a race team and just performing," Byron said. "They have a lot of loyalty to their drivers. I've seen that with Jimmie and how Mr. Hendrick and Jimmie can hug after the race and Jeff (Gordon) after his race last year at Homestead -- how much passion they have for what they do for Mr. Hendrick and that's something that I think is so important. You want to race for somebody you want to make proud so I want to make Mr. Hendrick proud and hopefully I can do that."
