CONCORD, N.C. – Only one Hendrick Motorsports driver – Jimmie Johnson – is officially locked into next month’s NASCAR All-Star Race.
But the field for the exhibition race with a $1 million prize is far from set.
Johnson’s three Hendrick Motorsports teammates – Chase Elliott, William Byron and Alex Bowman – can each join the fray, with several ways to work their way into the All-Star Race.
One of the routes is courtesy of the fan vote – a vote Elliott won in each of the past two seasons.
And voting is now open for this year’s edition.
Elliott, Byron and Bowman are all in the running, and fans can vote once per day for the driver they’d like to see in the All-Star Race. Votes shared via Facebook or Twitter count double, making sharing on social media key to get your driver into the field.
Fans can vote at NASCAR.com/fanvote until 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, May 18. The winner will be announced immediately following the conclusion of the Open qualifying race on Saturday, May 19.
The Open provides another chance for the three Hendrick Motorsports teammates to enter the All-Star field – the winner of each of the three stages in the event will automatically advance to the big race.
Additionally, winning a race this season prior to the All-Star Race would qualify any of the teammates for the event.
Once they get into the All-Star Race, they’ll need to tackle a brand-new format for the 2018 event. Check out the latest rules package here.
