CONCORD, N.C. – Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Chase Elliott led his Hendrick Motorsports teammates to the checkered flag in the All-Star Race with a fifth-place finish.

Elliott, who competed in the All-Star Race by winning the fan vote for the third consecutive year, started the 80-lap event in 17th and steadily gained positions throughout the race to take home the top-five result.

Jimmie Johnson joined his teammate inside the top 10, finishing right behind Elliott in sixth.

Alex Bowman was involved in a late-race incident that ended his night late in Stage 3. He was scored 21st.

Kevin Harvick earned the victory.

Below is a detailed look at how Elliott, Johnson and Bowman performed in Saturday’s All-Star Race.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Rolling off the grid 21st, Elliott went to work quickly and was inside the top 10 by Lap 15. The driver of the No. 9 SunEnergy1 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 gained 14 total positions in the opening 30-lap segment to finish the stage in seventh.
  • Elliott lost positions at the start of Stage 2 and was shuffled outside of the top 10 by Lap 37, but the driver battled his way back through the field. He was in ninth by Lap 43 and ultimately moved up four more spots to earn a top-five result in Stage 2.
  • Elliott fell outside of the top 10 early in Stage 3 and was in 18th by Lap 63, but the driver worked his way back into 10th during the Stage 3 overtime segment. After another caution in the overtime period, the driver moved up another three spots to finish the segment in seventh. Elliott continued to battle in the final 10-lap stage to finish in fifth.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Starting his 17th career All-Star Race 11th, Johnson quickly gained three positions to break into the top 10 by Lap 7.  The driver kept working the field  throughout Stage 1 to finish the segment in sixth.
  • In Stage 2, Johnson moved into second, but the driver eventually was shuffled to fifth. He continued to race inside the top 10 for the remainder of the second segment and finished the stage in sixth.
  • For the third segment, Johnson moved to 14th by Lap 54, but was able to work his way into ninth by Lap 59. He continued to race around the top 10 for most of the segment, finishing Stage 3 in 10th. Johnson kept battling his competitors in the final stage and gained four more positions to take home a sixth-place finish.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Bowman took the green flag in 18th Saturday, and was running inside the top 15 in 14th by Lap 20. He got shuffled back toward the end of the opening segment to finish Stage 1 in 17th.
  • Bowman ran 17th for much of Stage 2 and gained two positions toward the end of the segment to finish 15th.
  • Late in Stage 3, Bowman was involved in an incident that ultimately ended his night. He was scored 21st.
