CONCORD, N.C. -- It's an anniversary year for Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick's City Chevrolet, located in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In 1978, Hendrick purchased the dealership, which is now celebrating its 40th year under his ownership.

"City (Chevrolet) was the mothership," Hendrick said. "That's the deal that started it all. City was such a good opportunity and full of good people. City was a launching pad for all the other stores -- the first 10 to 15 stores, all the management came out of City Chevrolet."

To recognize the significance of City Chevrolet not only to Hendrick Automotive Group, but to Hendrick Motorsports as well, the sister companies teamed up to produce a video series throughout Charlotte Motor Speedway race weeks.

In the videos, Hendrick discusses City Chevrolet's ties to racing, signing his first Hendrick Motorsports driver inside the dealership and even what led to the making of the "Days of Thunder" movie.

"I owe City so much credit for our success in the automobile business and what has led to opportunities in NASCAR," he said.
