LONG POND, Pa. – Saturday afternoon at Pocono Raceway, two Hendrick Motorsports set themselves up with top-11 starting positions for Sunday's race.
William Byron advanced to the final round on the strength of the second-fastest time of the second round, and he was joined by teammate Chase Elliott.
In the final round, Byron qualified sixth, and Elliott will start Sunday's race 11th.
All four teammates advanced to the second round of the qualifying session, though Jimmie Johnson and Alex Bowman did not move on to the final round.
Johnson will start Sunday’s race 15th and Bowman will roll off the grid 20th.
“I wish we were starting better for my 600th start,” Johnson said. “Just so proud of having all 600 starts with one company, one sponsor – it’s just been an honor to drive these cars for Hendrick Motorsports. We’re trying to claw our way back right now. We’ll hopefully race better than we qualified.”
Kevin Harvick earned the pole.
Sunday’s race is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
UPDATE: With post-qualifying inspection complete, Johnson and Byron were among the competitors whose times were disallowed. The teammates will now start at the rear of the field Sunday, with Johnson rolling off the grid 35th with Byron starting 38th. Elliott, meanwhile, now holds a starting position of sixth, and Bowman will take the green flag in 10th.
