LAS VEGAS -- Thursday night, the fans voices were heard as Chase Elliott was crowned the 2018 NMPA most popular driver.
Providing the introduction was Elliott's former teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr., who has held the honor for the last 15 years.
And prior to that, Elliott's father Bill Elliott won the award a record 16 times.
"It's so cool that it's stayed between Elliott and Earnhardt for so long," Elliott said before joking to Earnhardt, "I am glad though that you quit a year before you broke Dad's record, so that's pretty cool, I'm pretty happy about that. We got it back in the right name."
