LAS VEGAS -- It was a big year for Hendrick Motorsports engines.
After winning both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series championships in 2014, the engine department added yet another trophy to its case on Thursday.
At the NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers 2014 Awards Luncheon in Las Vegas, Hendrick Motorsports was presented with the MAHLE Engine Builder of the Year Award for the 18th time.
In particular, engine assembler Billy Davis was singled out as the winner of the award.
"For me, this is not an individual award. It starts with (Hendrick Motorsports Owner) Mr. (Rick) Hendrick and includes everyone in our company," Davis said.
"We powered two championships and more than 30 national series wins. And all four Hendrick Motorsports cars made the Chase for the third straight year," he continued. "But none of it would happen without the support of partners like Bosch, Chevrolet, Mac Tools, Siemens, Valvoline and of course Mahle."
Points toward the Engine Builder of the Year Award were granted after every race based on qualifying and finishing position, with bonus points for the team that led the most laps.
Hendrick Motorsports engines had three of the top five finishing teams at the end of the season, including the winner.
"Thanks again to the countless people who made this possible -- Danny Emerick and all my Hendrick Motorsports teammates, family and friends," Davis said. "I’m so humbled and grateful."
