CONCORD, N.C. -- On Tuesday, NASCAR announced the new procedures that will take place for the next five races of the season.
The sanctioning body will have certain structures to ensure the safety of the drivers and crews at the track for the races at Bristol Motor Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway, Martinsville Speedway, Homestead-Miami Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway.
Here is how the starting lineup, pit selection and practice will be laid out for the next five races.
Bristol Motor Speedway – May 31
The pit selection at Bristol will be the drivers’ finishing positions at the second Charlotte race and the new entry of order points.
There will be no practice sessions for this race.
The starting order of the race will be determined by the drivers’ updated standings and a drawing based on those standings will happen on May 29. The top 12 drivers in the standings will having their names drawn in one group to see how they will roll off the grid in those top 12 spots.
A second group of names from the drivers ranked 13-24 in the standings will be drawn to determine how those drivers will place in the Nos. 13-24 spots. A third group of names will be drawn for the Nos. 25-36 spots based on those drivers’ standings. The Nos. 37-40 spots will be determined on the standings in order of owners’ points.
Atlanta Motor Speedway – June 7
Like at Bristol, the pit selection will be based on the drivers’ finishing positions from the Bristol race and the new entry of order points.
There will be no practice sessions for this race.
Once again, there will be three group drawings based on the updated drivers’ standings. The last four spots in the starting grid will be determined on the standings in order of owners’ points.
Martinsville Speedway – June 10
The pit selection will be based on the drivers’ finishing positions for the Atlanta race at the new entry of order points.
There will be no practice sessions for this race.
Like at Atlanta, there will be three group drawings based on the updated drivers’ standings. The last four spots in the starting grid will be determined on the standings in order of owners’ points.
Homestead-Miami Speedway – June 14
The pit selection will be based on the drivers’ finishing positions for the Martinsville race at the new entry of order points.
There will be no practice sessions for this race.
Like at Martinsville, there will be three group drawings based on the updated drivers’ standings. The last four spots in the starting grid will be determined on the standings in order of owners’ points.
Talladega Super Speedway – June 21
The pit selection will be based on the drivers’ finishing positions for the Homestead race at the new entry of order points.
There will be one practice session on Saturday, June 20 at 11:35 a.m. ET.
Like at Homestead, there will be three group drawings based on the updated drivers’ standings. The last four spots in the starting grid will be determined on the standings in order of owners’ points.
