CONCORD, N.C. – The latest edition of “The Dale Jr. Download” is live, and this week seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson sat down with host Dale Earnhardt Jr. for a wide-ranging discussion.
The former teammates spent plenty of time reminiscing about old stories of them hanging out together, including the first time Johnson convinced Earnhardt to ride a bike – and the first time he got him to ski during his one-year anniversary trip with his wife, Amy.
Johnson discussed how he feels when he looks back on his five consecutive titles and shared the “internal fire” that still drives him even after capturing a record-tying seven championships.
“I’m not done yet,” he said. “That fire is way too intense.”
The driver of the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the host swapped stories about fatherhood and how they approach the role of dad, which led to a touching story from Johnson about his daughters’ reaction to the late-race incident that took him out of contention at the Brickyard 400.
Though last week’s result left him out of the playoffs for the first time in his career, he said the No. 48 team has something to prove.
“It’s just about capturing flags right now,” the driver said. “That’s what we’re there for.”
