Johnson Takes Pocono Pole

POCONO, Pa. (June 6, 2003) – Jimmie Johnson and Team Lowe’s Racing earned their first pole position of the 2003 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season on Friday, posting the fastest time in qualifying at Pocono Raceway. With a lap of 170.645 mph in the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet, Johnson paced Hendrick Motorsports, who put all four Winston Cup teams in the top 15. Terry Labonte will start 11th on Sunday in the No. 5 Kellogg’s / got milk? Monte Carlo, with Jeff Gordon 12th in the No. 24 DuPont Chevy and Joe Nemechek 15th in the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Chevrolet. Scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET start on Sunday, the Pocono 500 will be broadcast live on MRN Radio and the FOX television network.
