GMAC Racing Qualifies 13th at ‘Dega

TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 3, 2003) – Driving the No. 5 GMAC Financial Services Chevrolet, Brian Vickers was 13th-quickest during Thursday’s NASCAR Busch Series qualifying session at Talladega Superspeedway. Vickers’ speed of 185.387 mph was almost two-tenths faster than the team’s best practice speed earlier in the day. “We’ll take it,” Vickers said. “I would’ve liked to have drawn a later qualifying number so we could have had the benefit of the cooler temperatures, but we still were able to pick up our time from this morning’s practice.” Vickers will start next to Coy Gibbs on the inside of Row 7 for the Aaron’s 312 on Saturday. Joe Nemechek, last week’s Busch Series winner at Texas and driver the No. 25 UAW-Delphi Chevy for Hendrick Motorsports in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, nabbed the pole position with a lap of 188.649 mph in his own No. 87 Chevrolet.
