Looking back at Jimmie Johnson's 2009 Brickyard 400 win

Join HendrickMotorsports.com this week for a look back on Hendrick Motorsports’ eight Brickyard 400 victories. This seventh installment shares highlights from the 2009 event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  2009 Recap: Jimmie Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Kobalt Tools Chevrolet, claimed his third Brickyard 400 win on July 26, 2009, after battling for the lead with Hendrick Motorsports teammate Mark Martin. Johnson lined up 16th for the 160-lap event and maneuvered his Chevy into the top 10 by Lap 10. Johnson took advantage of a restart on Lap 137 following the third caution of the afternoon to take the race lead. Johnson would then go on to lead the final 24 laps, crossing the start finish line .400 seconds ahead of Martin to take home another Brickyard 400 win.  “We have been happy with our performance, so to have it all come full circle today and lead at the right time and lead at the end and win this thing means a lot to us” Johnson told the media after the race.  The victory was the seventh Brickyard 400 win for Hendrick Motorsports and Johnson’s 43rd of his NASCAR Sprint Cup career. With the win, Johnson became the only driver to repeat as a Brickyard 400 champion.  Visit Heritage.HendrickMotorsports.com for photos of this event and a complete look at the history of Hendrick Motorsports.
