CONCORD, N.C. – Monday brought a busy afternoon for William Byron.
First came the race at Dover International Speedway, which had been postponed from Sunday due to inclement weather. He started on the outside pole and went on to earn second top-10 result of the season, crossing the finish line in eighth.
Shortly after the checkered flag, No. 24 team partner Liberty University unveiled Byron’s brand-new, patriotic paint scheme that the driver will pilot over the Memorial Day weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Byron took to Twitter to share his excitement about the ride he’ll take to his home track for 600 miles.
Liberty also shared the name of the military serviceman who gave his life in active duty defending his country that Byron’s No. 24 Liberty University Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will feature atop the windshield.
Like Byron, United States Air Force captain Mark Weber was a Liberty student enrolled in its online program. Weber died at the age of 29 in a helicopter crash while supporting Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq on March 15, 2019.
“It’s an honor to be able to have Captain Mark Weber’s name on our car in Charlotte,” Byron said. “It’s the least we can do to show our appreciation to him and his family for the sacrifice he made for our country.”
