CONCORD, N.C. – It’s Bristol, baby.
Known for being a loud track with high banking, Bristol Motor Speedway is short-track racing at its finest. And since 1984, Bristol has brought Hendrick Motorsports many memorable moments.
Before our haulers head to the half-mile track in Tennessee, let’s take a look at three Hendrick Motorsports memorable moments.
April 2, 1995 – A young Jeff Gordon was in his second year racing with Hendrick Motorsports and he was looking for his first win at Bristol. After qualifying second, he led 205 laps throughout the race and brought home the checkered flag from the coveted short track. Gordon finished the 1995 season with his first of four championships. To this day, he is tied for most wins among active drivers at Bristol.
Aug. 26, 1995 – When the green flag dropped at the half-mile track, Terry Labonte started on the front row in the second position. After a 15-caution race, he finally took the lead with 69 laps to go and held onto it all the way to Victory Lane. Labonte finished the 1995 season with three wins.
Aug. 21, 2010 – Jimmie Johnson was coming off of four championship seasons and was en route to his fifth. He started his weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway strong, winning his first and only pole position at the short track. Johnson led 175 laps at the half-mile track and eventually finished the race 35th. Jimmie went on to win six races and finished the season claiming his fifth of sixth championship trophies.
