BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Dad, start your engine!
Leo and Ella Gordon stood beside dad Jeff's No. 24 3M Chevrolet SS Sunday afternoon at Bristol Motor Speedway, ready to deliver the words they had practiced all week long.
"Drivers, start your engines!" they yelled. And Leo added in a loud "Vroom!" for good measure.
"Highlight for me," their proud father said. "The day couldn't be bad after that. That was so, so cool, and they nailed it. I'm just so, so proud of them."
It was an honor bestowed upon the young Gordon siblings at the beginning of the month as a way to continue to celebrate Gordon's final full-time Sprint Cup Series season.
"To do that, to invite them to do that means so much to me, and they just had a blast preparing for it, just practicing in the car on the way to school," Gordon said. "So funny, and Leo, he had to put his little engine rev in there at the end, which I thought just kind of put it over the top."
Both Ella and Leo received their own trophy commemorating their time as grand marshals.
In Gordon's eyes, they delivered one of the best commands to start engines in recent memory.
"Best one I've ever heard," he beamed.
